This stage is when team members are excited to get started. Because people have different ideas about how to achieve goals, conflict can occur. They begin to see differences and not similarities. Some members may drop out, either mentally or physically.
During the storming stage, team members start to show their true styles. They get impatient. They start to poke at each other’s areas, which can lead to frustration and irritation. This stage is all about control.
This is the stage when people start to see similarities. They see that they are all in this together. They may become more social and lose their focus, which can lead to them becoming more social. If training is necessary, this is the time to assist them. To make them feel at ease with one another and with the systems, it is important to encourage them. The group must remain focused on the goal.
During the norming stage, conflict resolution is possible. It is easier to involve the team members. It is more “we” than “I” that feels better.
