Developing Strong Leadership

Effective leadership is the foundation of any business endeavour. The ability to inspire and guide team members towards success is crucial, in achieving performance and productivity which ultimately drives a business towards its goals. Developing this skill takes time supported by resources and is typically associated with an individuals position, title and experience.

Why Leadership Matters;

Leadership plays a role in the triumph of a company and its sense of purpose. It empowers an organisation to establish and execute its objectives, mission and vision while fostering unity among its employees. Companies rely on leaders who have intelligence and deep knowledge to make critical decisions and address issues. Resulting in a productive work environment and positive workplace culture that promotes teamwork well being and a sense of belonging.

Styles of Leadership;

Autocratic Leadership;
Autocratic leadership entails leaders making decisions without seeking input from others. This style is often employed when facing decisions during times of crisis. It offers benefits such, as decision making processes and clear structural guidance. However, it may hinder collaboration efforts. Can be perceived as lacking empathy.
Different Leadership Styles;

Laissez faire Leadership;
Laissez leadership allows employees to have a level of independence, in decision making and requires minimal supervision. While this approach empowers experienced employees and promotes creativity it can pose challenges for newcomers potentially resulting in performance and productivity. This leadership style creates an trusting work environment. May suffer from a lack of clarity and potential disengagement from the leader.

Participative Leadership;
Participative leadership follows a model where team members input is taken into consideration although the final decisions rest with the leader. This approach fosters a shared sense of value among team members. Encourages innovation. However, challenges can arise when trying to reach a consensus and managing pressures within the group.

Transactional Leadership;
Transactional leadership revolves around setting goals that are agreed upon by both leaders and their teams. This style emphasises achievements while addressing shortcomings if necessary. It provides clarity and fairness. May limit employee creativity and flexibility.

Transformational Leadership;
Transformational leadership involves uniting leaders and their teams around a goal often involving the company. It nurtures team morale. Promotes teamwork. However, this style may lead to micromanagement. Place additional pressure, on the leader to invest time and resources in their team.
