What makes a great supervisor?

This is a manager who is capable of turning an employee in the right direction to get things done, who is able to uphold standards and  make sure performance in the workplace. they try to get the most out of his or her work team. They try to give employees the knowledge they need in order to help the employees meet the company’s goals and standards. This person leads by example, he or she is trying to be an example for the others.

Great supervisors are a blend of both soft and hard skills   a combo that makes them both effective and efficient. And how they direct, control and influence their staff. These are people whom you should want to reproduce and not despise. Finding a good leader is a matter of luck. We can’t work well and be effective if we have ineffective and power hungry leaders. Be a good Leader, be better.

Supervisory skills

 Never stop to improve and developing a special set of skills as leader so as to able to lead a team successfully, do not think that once you are promoted and given a title as a supervisor, you are free from the responsibility of accountability of how the team performs. Businesses need leaders with functional expertise in decision making and problem solving which leads to productivity, positive work environment and team well being.

Styles of leadership

  1. Autocratic .

 This is the type of leadership style which the leaders always take the decisions all the time. They never ask any help from others. It is their favourite style because they like to be the leader and do everything alone or refuse take any advice. In some situation the crisis time the only ability of a leader to make the decisions is keeping the full control. 

  1. Laissez Faire

This is a kind of leadership, where leaders give little direction to their employees and allow most decisions to be put to by employees. While this helps experienced employees to feel satisfied and free in their work, there lies a downside, where new employees are having difficulty and So which leads to poor work performance and productivity.

  1. Participative. 

This is a way of leadership in which leaders do a sort of democracy within the team. Inputs evolve, however, the decision is made by the leaders. Leaders use the communication when valuable insight is necessary in a given situation. This does help employees to feel more trusted and freer to express.

  1. Transactional

This is a leadership style where the leader and his or her co-workers mutually set goals for each other. It makes leaders responsible for rewarding,  and reprimanding employees for fulfilling or not fulfilling theirs set objectives. It is  a lot of the time used when teams deliver results and motivated them for deliverables and reward for performance. This helps employees to feel like they are getting paid for their labour but it makes leadership more difficult as this has a more attention to individual performance which is not always a sign employees are working hard.

  1. Transformational. 

 This is a type of leadership style where leader and their team have the similar goal. Usually leaders are applying this behaviour when a particular goal needs to be accomplished by the whole team or even a company. This seems like a positive point for workers to be valued by leader and being not afraid of working with leader in order to reach the same objective. As well as this it will encourage a team to become a strong team. Although, this can be a sign of micro management.

Here are important supervisory skills;

  1. Trustworthiness.

 Your job as a supervisor is to build trust, because if your employees don’t trust that you can handle your job properly, how would you feel? You need to earn their trust so that they can see that you’re committed to making an effort, so show them. You need to make sure you are communicating to set expectations, as well as non biased decisions and of course, that you’re committed. 

  1. Ethics

Remember that any action and decisions you make can be a mirror image of how the people who work for you, the department and the company  see you.  You should become more aware of consequences. Make sure it’s aligned with company values. You’re expected to become nimble in decision making or problems that arise and to act immediately.

  1. Motivate

This is a key element of super res source work and you won’t be able to do it easily, but as a leader you really should be able to;  ‘“know thine own people” that is, to fathom human nature’;  it’s not all about what you may get paid to do the job, but what keeps them, your team, going. Get inside things that activate each person.

  1. Communication skills.

 Communication is and always will be a large part of being a supervisor, as it is your relationship with your team, your way to fill in the blank gap for an employee and for a manager and avoid any conflict that may come up, while also being sure to see that your projects get completed on time and learn how to communicate feedback. Candidates are expected to demonstrate Being capable to provide open and honest feedback about the performance of their employee and coach the employee to the root of any issue that addresses or needs improvement in.

  1. Time Management. 

 Nowadays, most supervisors have to handle a volume of tasks at as It requires creating a statistic reports, evaluations of employees’ performance, customer meetings, supervising employees training,  etc. 

Some of these demands can be delegated to skilled team member under guiding instruction, they will gain good experience regarding the task that they are entrusted with (this is where delegation work becomes a form of capital to relieve the supervisor of great stress.) Let them do what needs more time and energy. They tend to manage their time well. Stay organised in order to avoid delays and easier deadlines. Of course, depending on how much practise you get, you can develop this skill it no time at all.
