coursedetailsThe body language of those around you speaks volumes, whether at work or out with friends. More than 60% of communication is done through body language.

Our facial expressions and body movements can convey a lot of information. According to some estimates, body language could account for 60-65% of all communication. While it is essential to understand body language, it is equally important to pay attention to context and other cues. You should consider signals in a series of actions rather than one.

It is possible to learn body language. You can find self-help resources online to help you understand body language. To gain further insight into body language, you can talk to a counselor. You may be surprised at how other people perceive you based on the body language cues that you send out.

Reading Body Language Techniques

You can detect unspoken emotions or issues by being aware of the body language of others. These are nonverbal signs you should be aware of.

#1: Pay Attention to Your Eyes. Eye behavior can reveal a lot about your personality.

  • The inability to make eye contact with someone directly can be a sign of boredom, disinterest, or deceit, especially if they look away from you.
  • A person who looks down often indicates submissiveness or nervousness.
  • When cognitive effort is increased, pupils dilate. If someone is focused on something or someone they like, their pupils will automatically dilate.
  • Blinking rates can be a sign of internal issues. When people think more or are stressed, their blinking rate will increase.
  • A desire to have something in your life can be expressed by looking at it. A desire to speak to someone can be indicated by looking at them.

If someone is lying, they will look upwards or to the right in a conversation. However, if you look upwards or to the left during the conversation, it means that the person is telling truth. This is because people tend to look upwards and to their right when they use imagination to create stories, but look to the left and up when they are actually recalling a memory.

#2: Body Gestures

  • The universal sign of confusion is the shoulder shrug.
  • Stress is indicated by a clenched jaw, tightened shoulders, or furrowed eyebrows.
  • Crossed legs and arms signal resistance to your ideas. Crossed legs and arms are signs that the other person doesn’t want to hear what you have to say.
  • The trunk should be exposed and left open to show friendliness, openness, and willingness.
  • Sometimes, standing straight up, with your hands on your hips, can convey excitement, eagerness, and confidence.

#3: Movement

  • It’s a great way to show your audience that you are confident and include everyone on the stage.
  • To move towards the audience means to ask questions or make a point.
  • An exaggerated nod signals anxiety about approval. If someone is telling you something and they don’t nod enough, it could be a sign that they are anxious about your opinion or doubt their ability.

#4: Expression

  • A sign of discomfort is often raised eyebrows.
  • Real smiles reach the eyes and crease the skin around them to create crow’s feet. People smile to conceal what they really feel and think. If you want to see if someone is truly smiling, check for wrinkles at the corners. If they’re not there, it could be that the smile is concealing something.
  • It is possible to seduce someone by smiling and making eye contact.

#5: Breathing

  • When you are under stress, positive or negative, your breathing tends to increase.
  • An angry person’s face can turn red if they are upset. Rapid breathing is usually the cause of this reaction.

#6: Voice

  • If a person’s voice becomes hollow, it is a sign that they are sad.
  • Happiness is indicated by a faster, more positive voice and a happier attitude.
  • Fake Body Language is Not Possible

These tricks won’t work unless you feel confident and in control. Because you don’t have control over all the signals that you send about your thoughts and feelings, it’s impossible to be confident. The more you try to control your signals, the more natural they will seem.

Communication through body language is part of body language. Non-verbal communication and body language give clues to others about how we feel inside, even if we aren’t speaking. If someone can read what they see, facial expressions and body language can give them a glimpse into their inner thoughts. It’s possible to send mixed signals if you don’t pay enough attention to your body language.
