People often blame personality clashes for conflicts, but what they perceive as personality conflicts may actually be quite the opposite. Every person is unique and has their own set of beliefs and attributes that make them who they are. We would clash with anyone who is not like us. We can actually accept and even enjoy differences, as long as they do not challenge our beliefs or values. Our lives will be richer and more enjoyable if we view the world through the eyes of others.

It can be hard to live with or work with people who hold different beliefs or personalities than you. You shouldn’t treat anyone you don’t like with intolerance or disdain.

What is Personality Clash?

A personality clash is often described as a disruption that occurs when someone questions a deeply held belief or value. It is viewed as a threat and we fight to prove they wrong. We are actually seeking confirmation that there is no reason for us to change.

A personality conflict is when two or more people are in conflict over one issue or another. It may also occur because of a fundamental incompatibility between their personalities, approaches to things or their way of living. This could be in relation to work, family, or social situations.

Team conflicts that involve personality clashes are the most common type. These conflicts arise from differences in personalities among team members. It’s not possible to like or get along with every person you meet, regardless of whether they are your supervisor, coworker, or peer. It can be difficult to work with someone who is different from you. It is important to learn to accept their differences and work with them peacefully and productively.

Types of personality conflicts

Workstyle differences – people work in different ways. This is a fact of life in the workplace. Some people work fast, finishing their tasks quickly. Others prefer to wait until the deadline is approaching. Others prefer to focus on the things that appeal to them most, while others prefer to go step by step through their checklist.

Different backgrounds: Our worldviews and how we view others at work are shaped by our unique backgrounds. Different perspectives, such as gender, race, social status, education, political views, and personal experiences, can have a significant impact on how we interact at work.

Attitude differences: How others treat you can make or break your relationship with them. We are mostly free to be who we want in modern society. We can live happily with people who have different views and opinions than we do. Even people with completely different morals and life values than ours can live, work and socialise together. Respect the wishes of others in this situation.

It is difficult for everyone to get along with their coworkers at work. This can also lead to lower productivity. A personality conflict can be subtle but not unspoken. Disputes can lead to other team members taking sides and creating cliques. These results can cause problems for your company.

How to Handle Personality Clashes

Every clash has a different backstory. It is impossible to create a single system. You can combat this problem by learning to accept and manage different personalities. Here are some tips to manage personality clashes.

Positive thinking can transform negativity into positivity

“What if this speech is not perfect? What if my jokes aren’t funny enough? What if I don’t know what to say? Many people are afraid to give a presentation. We only bring down ourselves before we have a chance at proving ourselves. This belief is known as a self-fulfilling prophecy. It is a belief that becomes true when we act as if it is already true. It will eventually come true if you believe you are incompetent.

Do not respond immediately to someone who is bothering you.

They are familiar with how to push your buttons, and have been doing so for a long time. You can give yourself time to think about your responses before you respond immediately. This may lead to the other person thinking that you are retreating and they will start to de-escalate.

Find out what your personality type does for you.

As I have mentioned, personality development is partly a way to meet our needs as children. Get curious about your personality. This is vital because it will allow you to identify your personality when you are influenced by someone else’s personality.

Practice makes perfect

Many of us, like most people, are not naturally able to speak in public. Rarely does a person present flawlessly to large audiences without doing extensive research. It is not difficult to present well because of their extensive practice.

Concentrate on the strengths of the other person.

Remember the contribution that each person makes to your company and your team. We tend to be focused on the bad and negative aspects of things when they are not working. Focusing on the positive can help us get back to neutral and see things objectively.

It can be hard to live with or work with people who hold different beliefs or personalities than you. You shouldn’t treat anyone you don’t like with intolerance or disdain.

The good news is that, even though there are likely have dysfunctional coworkers at work, or worse, you may have identified some of these problems in your own workplace personality, each one of us has free will.
